The short version
XChat is no longer only a name associated with the messaging experience inside X. By July 30, 2026, X Corp. had live, dedicated XChat listings on both the Apple App Store and Google Play, while X Help continued to document Chat inside X and on web.
Before the dedicated app
Earlier X Help material focused on Chat as the newer direct messaging experience within X. That is why older articles and search results may still tell users to update the main X app or use x.com instead of looking for a separate download.
What changed in 2026
The current help page explicitly refers to the XChat app and says users can download it and sign in with existing X credentials. The Google Play listing is published by X Corp. with the package name com.x.chat, and Apple lists X Corp. as the developer of its XChat app for iPhone and iPad.
What remains unconfirmed
We have not found one official X announcement that identifies a single coordinated worldwide launch date for both stores. Store availability also varies by device and country, so the most useful answer is a dated availability check rather than a guessed launch day.
